about the little shop of spinning
The Little Shop of Spinning in Roanoke, Indiana was originally in downtown Fort Wayne under the ownership of Betty Barry. In 2011 is when the current owner met Betty at the Johnny Appleseed Festival. Within a month Phia had taken lessons and bought her first wheel – a Kromski Sonata. Phia also joined the Flax and Fleecers Spinning Guild and went to many fiber demonstrations with the guild. It wasn’t too many years that Phia approached Betty about taking over the shop when Betty was ready to retire from her retirement job. In 2018 Betty and Phia traveled to Ashford’s factory in New Zealand for a weeklong dealer’s retreat. Transition plans were started and in June 2019 The Little Shop of Spinning moved to Roanoke and opened its doors. Phia continues both the Kromski and Ashford dealerships and has added Kraemer Yarns from Pennsylvania and Storey Publishing books to the inventory. Phia has also contracted a local woodworker to make top whorl drop spindles with Indiana hardwood. She also continues with beginning spinning lessons.
